Palliative care has evolved over the past decades as an interprofessional specialty, focusing on improving the quality of life of terminally ill patients, especially in the context of cancer, where treatment can be long and problematic. Palliative care is crucial in addressing the physical and psychological symptoms that affect patients at this stage. Nurses play a key role in this area, providing individualized care and coordinating care to improve patients' quality of life. This literature review aims to synthesize innovative strategies in nursing care for palliative care oncology patients. A comprehensive search of relevant articles published between 2017 and 2023 in recognized databases was conducted using rigorous selection criteria. The literature supports the importance of the involvement of palliative care teams in improving care for cancer patients, which is reflected in the growing demand for specialized nurses in this field worldwide. The need for comprehensive care that addresses not only the physical, but also the emotional, social and spiritual aspects of the patient is highlighted. In conclusion, nurses have a important role to play in comprehensive care, providing emotional and spiritual support that contributes significantly to the well-being of patients and their families during this difficult stage.
