Benefits and disadvantages of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence is a resource that has quickly captured the interest of users, which has caused more and more people to seek to take advantage of the use of this tool for various purposes, such as problem solving, personalization of offers, the development of ideas, among others. Currently, its use has spread in different fields, including education; Therefore, this article was carried out with the general objective of identifying the benefits and disadvantages of the use of artificial intelligence in higher education. The methodology was based on a non-experimental cross-sectional design, in terms of its scope the type of research was descriptive and based on the inductive-deductive method. For its delimitation, five teachers and 12 students from third-level institutions in the city of Azogues were considered, with whom an interview and a discussion group were conducted respectively. The results reflected that some of the main benefits attributed to it include greater facilities for searching and filtering information, which contributes to the development of research; however, among the disadvantages is a possible dependency for the development of tasks. Although AI has become an essential tool to facilitate the development of various tasks in people's daily lives, it is essential that it be used appropriately to achieve optimal use, mainly in the educational field.
