Optimization of Gradúa Cane Use in Functional and Decorative Interior Design for the Libertador Bolívar Commune

Abstract

This research analyzes the optimization of caña gradúa (Ecuadorian bamboo) as a construction and decoration material for interior design in the Libertador Bolívar commune, Ecuador. The study employs a mixed methodology, combining quantitative analysis of the material's physical properties through laboratory testing and community member surveys, with qualitative methods including semi-structured interviews with key informants and participant observation. Results reveal that caña gradúa possesses optimal technical characteristics for interior design, highlighting its remarkable compressive strength and excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties. The study identified that a significant majority of residents use caña gradúa in interior design, although there exists a substantial gap in technical knowledge and training. The research concludes that caña gradúa represents a sustainable and culturally relevant alternative for interior design, requiring training programs and modular design approaches to maximize its potential.
